The Story of a Chef
This would probably be the real birth of Always Hungry. We approached good friend and restaurant chef Koen Janssens of Broosend Hof: we needed a character for our first real portfolio project. The extra exposure for the restaurant made it a true win/win.
According to the book: we started with a carefully thought through script and shortlist. The idea was to portray this nostalgic personality as if the images were shot back in the old days: black and white. When people still smoked pipes and drove horse and carts and such. The fun thing is: nothing had to be put in scene. Koen is simply a rather old-school person, smoking pipes every once in a while and actually going for trips in the forest with his horse & cart.
The viewer is made to believe the black&white images is random archive footage. Halfway though it becomes clear the man shown in these old images was Koen.
Although this story has been published a few years ago, both Koen as us still regularly get compliments about this one. It also remains to be one we are still proud of. The 2 minute video portrait reached about 16k views. Counting further on the homepage of the restaurant website:
